How well do you know yourself? What new aspect have you learned about yourself? What new skill or talent have you discovered within yourself? What are you passionate about? What really interests you? These questions are not meant to make you feel bad or guilty, particularly if you discover that you have very few answers. These questions help to illustrate the point that life is a continuous journey of learning more about who we are, what we want from life and how we want to live. What we learn about ourselves can be more useful and powerful than what we ever learned from a textbook while we were in school. What you are learning about yourself has the power to transform your life and enable you to get more out of life. We learn by challenging ourselves with new experiences and exposing ourselves to new ideas that will help us to tap into new parts of our personalities and talents.

The more we learn, the more we grow and stretch personally. We enrich ourselves and discover new aspects of who we are. Learning gives our lives a renewed focus and even new meaning. Learning can empower us to take our lives in new directions. Learning can help us move from a worn-out path to a newer, more enriching path in life.

Our culture teaches us that learning stops when we finish school. The learning does not stop when we earn the college degree or high school diploma. We simply fall into the pattern of focusing all of our energy and attention on the world out there while we ignore ourselves. We lose this connection with ourselves as we are so busy trying to get ahead in the career game. It is only when we reach a breaking point where our lives seem without joy that we begin to realize that we have stopped learning and growing in new directions.

Everyday is always a new opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and discover who we are. Get in touch with yourself if you have been out of touch. Take time to listen to your thoughts. Do an emotional check in. How do you feel about yourself and your life? Pay attention to your hunches and your vibes. Listen to what your life is trying to tell you. Is it time to add some excitement and newness to your life? Is it time for you to challenge yourself in new ways? The more you listen to yourself, the more you will get to know yourself. When you know yourself, you are better equipped to make choices that honor who you really are.

Sometimes we are afraid that we will not like what we discover about ourselves as we learn more about ourselves. True, we might not like everything that we find, but we can learn to accept ourselves without conditions. We may discover that we have some raw, edgy and unpleasant feelings and thoughts. It is okay if we have these feelings. We were never meant to always have thoughts of sugar, spice and everything nice all the time. It is unwise to judge our thoughts and feelings as wrong or bad. The more we judge ourselves, then we are making it difficult to connect with ourselves. Our job is to learn to accept what comes from our soul without judgment.

Know that every experience gives us an opportunity to learn something about ourselves on a deeper level. Take a closer look at your life and your current circumstances. What are your circumstances trying to teach you? Are you happy with your life? If not, what is it that you need to learn that can create more happiness within your life? Take a recent experience that created a strong emotional reaction from you, what did you learn about yourself from this experience? What did you learn about life in general from this experience? Think about how you can use the lessons learned from your experiences and circumstances to get more out of life and be happier.

Everyday we are being presented with opportunities to learn something new and powerful about ourselves. Get connected with your thoughts and feelings and see what they are trying to tell you. Knowing yourself is an important step in creating a better life for yourself.
